My old favourite site in Victoria is called 'The Oaks' (above) on the way to Wood's Point. The straight line distance from Melbourne is slightly less than that of the Heathcote site. However, 'The Oaks' is in a very remote region at an altitude of 1100 metres. I cannot detect any evidence of Melbourne's lights in the west nor any other sign of light pollution. However, it requires a longer drive and involves around 40km of unsealed road. One day I will learn not try and combine my astrophotography with a passion for snow. It's actually rare for there to be snow at The Oaks.
