I was once an amateur astronomer in Melbourne, Australia. Now I'm doing my best with the weather in Aberdeen, Scotland. In the occasional gaps in the cloud, I've been trying to see the 'Aurora Borealis'.
My Astrophotography Gallery is found using the Gallery link at the bottom of the menu.
Here is a summary of the pages listed in the sub-menu on the left:
This was my equipment: I have upgraded the mount to a Vixen GP-DX with SkySensor 2000. This page might get updated one day.
Canon EOS 10D - ISO vs Noise test: When using the Canon 10D for astrophotography, one key decision is what ISO setting to use. Many people have found that using high ISO settings to take a larger number of shorter exposures works best. However, these results seem to indicate that lower ISO settings seem to be best. This may be partly a result of the cold temperatures on clear winter nights in Scotland, since others have found a different result in warmer climates?
Astrophotography Lens Tests: Tests for the sharpness at various apertures of Canon 200mm lens with teleconverters and two Sigma wide angle lenses and a Canon zoom lens.
Observing Locations: Places I observe from with astronomical societies in Aberdeen, Scotland and Victoria, Australia.
Film for Astrophotography: Some comments on various slide and print films for astrophotography.
Meade/Celestron CCD autoguider tips: Meade and SBIG autoguiders have the same cable pinout signals and can be used with Celestron or Meade mounts. My new mount, the Vixen GP-DX, uses SkySensor 2000 which unfortunately has a different sequence of pin signals for the CCD autoguider port. If you can't find it anywhere else, let me know and I can send you the wiring sequence for the SkySensor 2000.
Lunar Eclipse 2000: Some fairly old, but (I think) quite impressive prime focus photos of the Lunar Eclipse in Australia from 2000.
